Rugby player collapses and dies

Rugby Player Ryan Graham (31) has died on the pitch during a training this weekend. It was. Graham was at his local rugby club when he collapsed. The man, father of two, was taken to hospital, after friends tried to rescue him, but died. A post mortem is yet to come. Trevor Lloyd, secretary of the rugby club, said: “He was a very dedicated, very popular and very experienced player who played his rugby with a lot of spirit and a lot of fun." In March a school boy(16) collapsed during a soccer game and a year ago a rugby captain(18) died from hart failure on the pitch.

Lately you hear a lot of more of these tragic cases. Last week a saw a documentary about a professional soccer player; he had some issues with his heart but he ignored it because he wanted to play soccer so bad. In this case the doctors think it is a heart attack, this does not have to mean that he could have prevented it. I do think professional athletes sometimes find their sport and achievements are more important than their health. Sometimes your body cannot handle all the training and when your body tells you to stop, you should.

You’re part of my world now, Mercy

After one son out of her first marriage and two adopted children, Madonna wanted to adopt another child. The girl she wanted to adopt was orphan Mercy James from Malawi. A few weeks ago the Malawi’s Supreme Court of Appeal refused her Madonna’s request to adopt the little girl because the future parents should be living in Malawi for at least eighteen months. Madonna appealed the adoption rejection. Yesterday she was told she was allowed to adopt Mercy James, the judge decided the girl would receive a better life with Madonna. Madonna said: “It is a new beginning for us all. The world is ours to change together now. I promise I will love, protect and guide you with my every breath.

Although I do agree that the child is probably better of with Madonna than in an orphanage, I hope she does not do this as a hobby. Lately celebrities are adopting children as if hey are shopping. It looks like this is becoming some kind of hype. I do think some kids are better of in Western society than without parents in an orphanage in poor countries like Malawi but we should make sure people adopt with the right motives.

Starved girl 'like camp survivor'

A seven-year-old girl died of starvation. An ambulance worker tells the girl looked already dead when he was at her home he claims she looked like a concentration camp victim. He went to her house after her mother called for an emergency. The mother and her boyfriend have denied murdering the little Khyra. Steve Handling, emergency medical technician, says he has never seen any case like this. She looked like a doll and was unbelievebly thin. He told in court they could not give hart massage, afraid to break her ribs. The girls’ parents are prosecuted, the trial continues.

I hope the parents will go to jail. People like them should not be able to have children. The paramedic also said the mother did not show any emotion when they entered the house. I wonder what the mother was thinking! The worse thing was that the emergency people could not do anything for the girl, it seems like her parents had waited until it was too late and then called the hospital. I feel very sorry for the girl especially because we know she suffered. Hopefully her parents end behind bars and will never have kids again.

Billy Elliot sweeps Tony awards

The hit musical Billy Elliot has won 10 Tony Awards! The Broadway production won the award for Best musical, Best actor and the director won a Tony too. The British musical is based on Billy Elliot the film they were both directed by Stephen Daldry. He feels blessed able to work on the extraordinary story. He and friend, and helper, Sir Elton John were happy the musical had been accepted on Broadway. The musical started when the world had a hard time economically but the musical became popular and as Sir Elton John said: “You opened up your wallets and you opened up your hearts to us. And we love you for it, thank you."

I am a great musical fan and I cannot wait for this musical to come to Holland. The story of Billy Elliot is so moving and beautiful I would love seeing it in theatre. It is great for the director, producer, actors and all the people who helped, to win these prizes. In these, economically hard, times it is a great challenge to get people to theatres. Everybody has been watching there money during the past few months and it is great to see that, despite the fact that people have been saving money, so many have come and visited this musical.

Jor kids war

Jordan, real name Katie Price, and Peter Andre are in a fight again. Since their divorce they have been all over the tabloids. Jordan was accused of being a bad mother, stopped eating and taking pills, close friends say that this is not true. Peter wants custody over the kids and have them, at least, part time. And that is what this fight is about. This weekend Peter was supposed to have the children all weekend, instead he gave them back earlier around 1pm. She dropped everything when Pete called her and changed the arrangements but she was furious. Why is Peter moaning about not seeing the kids enough and when he is with his kids he hands them back to Katie.

To be honest, I do not think I should care about Jordan and Peters problems but that is what tabloids are about! Peter and Jordan had a real life soap and I saw a few episodes of this. I thought they looked really happy and I am sorry for them that it did not work out. I do think they should not talk about their problems in the media and tell their close friends they should not do this either. These battle should be fought at home not in the media, that will only make it worse. I guess that is how it works when your famous…

Prison attacks in Wales 'up 48%'

The number of prisoner-on-prisoner attacks has risen 48%. Leanne Wood blames the criminal justice system, they cause chronically overcrowded prisons. Minister David Hanson (MP) says that reducing the violence is a priority. The biggest problem in Wales is the privately run ‘Parc-prison’. Although the number of prisoner-on-officer has fallen, as well as the self-harm cases, most of these incidents take place in Parc-prison. Ms Wood says that because of the overcrowded prisons it is difficult to maintain control and this explains the increasing number of prisoner-on-prisoner attacks. We need experienced officers, more community-based rehabilitation and behaviour programmes to reduce the violence.

This is a topic I normally would not choose but the problems in prisons in Holland have been in the newspapers several times this week too. I do not know Parc Prison so I cannot say what is going wrong there but I do think that the problems are caused by overcrowded prisons. The people working in prisons have to take care of a lot of prisoners and to have everything work smoothly you have to be in control. In my opinion rehabilitation and behaviour programmes are a good solution, although I am not sure every prisoner will be willing to work with these programmes.

Swine flu total 'may be double'

A leading bacteriologist has said that the number of swine flu cases in the UK is probably double the official figure. We have now officially counted 500 cases, but these numbers are underestimated. A soldier in the British army is diagnosed with swine flu. He has been isolated and is responding very well to the treatment. In scotland a woman who just gave birth to her baby is suffering from swine flu too, her conditions are critical. Professor Pennington, Aberdeen University, says: "In the United States, they think for every case they know about, every confirmed case, there are 20 other cases out there in the community. We do not think the same but all the experts agree that the numbers we have got are underestimated.

To be honest I was not really scared of this flu. In holland there has not been a case of swine flu yet, so it seems so far away. When you start thinking if it, it is scary actually. There is this flu and no one knows how to cure it and it spreads out through over the whole world. It is overseas and it has not stopped spreading. I am glad that the symptoms are known and if you are on time you can be treated. Hopefully this disease disappears as soon as it appeared.

Man died after ambulance detour

An emergency patient (69-year-old male) died because the personnel of the ambulance decided one of the paramedics had to be home on time. Instead of taking the man, who had a stroke, to hospital a paramedic and a technician decided to take him to the town’s ambulance station. They did this because the paramedics shift had ended and they did not want to finish late. The man died because taking him to hospital took them almost 30 minutes, instead of the usual 10. Both men were suspended as soon as the North East Ambulance Service Trust took note of their actions.

I find it unbelieveble that this paramedic did this. I wonder if there was a reason for his hurry but even if there is a reason this is unforgivable. Suspending the people involved in this case is a good thing just until the investigation has finished. North East Ambulance Service Trust says: "This has led to a thorough investigation and both the paramedic and advanced technician are now being dealt with in line with the trust's disciplinary procedures." I believe there has been taken care of very well also for the families of the victim.

Jolie tops celebrity power list

· Angelina Jolie
· Oprah Winfrey
· Madonna
· Beyonce
· Tiger Woods
· Bruce Springsteen
· Steven Spielberg
· Jennifer Aniston
· Brad Pitt
· Kobe Bryant
This is the new top 10 of most powerful celebrities. Shocking about this list is that Angelina Jolie knocked Oprah Winfrey off the top spot. Jolie earns 27 million dollars a year and got more popular because of her latest movies. Oprah still earns more approximately 275 million dollars a year. The Celebrity 100 list is based on earnings and media exposure. Madonna came third thanks to last years tour. Fourth place is for singer Beyoncé followed by Tiger Woods, the only male in the top 5. Coldplay lead the British in 15th place. Unfortunately author J.K. Rowling disappeared from the list, since there are no more new Harry Potter book last year.

I find it amazing how much money these celebrities make. Isn’t it shocking that some people do not have a home, food and water, and Oprah Winfrey still makes over 750.000 dollars a day! Of course these stars donate a lot of money to charity too but it is shocking. I, personally, prefer Oprah Winfrey over Angelina Jolie but just because she seperated Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt. (Jennifer is my favorite ‘Friend’. ) I am pleasently surprised that there are so many black people in the top 10. Sometimes people say that black people do not get as many chances as white people do, and racism can still be an issue in some countries nowadays. But this top 10 proves black people can be successful too.

Student murderers get life terms

The two men who murdered two French students in London have been sentenced to years of jail. The two French victims, Gabriel Ferez and Laurent Bonomo, were killed in an horrific way and suffered hundreds of stab wounds.
Although the killers, Dano Sonnex and Nigels Farmer, are responsible for this tragedy, some serious failures have been made by the authorities. For example, Sonnex has been jailed before and told a doctor in prison he was afraid he could kill. He should have been in custody at the time he committed these murders. Prosecutor Aylett said: "To take revenge for the fact that they had been unable to steal money from the French students, both men were murdered in a way that can only be described as inhuman. The victims parents hope to get answers in the next couple of weeks.

What these men did is horrible. Firemen said that what had found was a scène of unimaginable horror. The title says the murders are sentenced to life, but because of their young ages, both 23 years old, they are sentenced to a minimum of 35 years. The reason they committed this crime is another tragic part of the story, although there is never an excuse for murder, the students had not done anything wrong. I wonder if Sonnex, who admitted he could be able to kill, had therapy for his confessions. If he had, I think the police could not have done something to prevent this.

It wasn't singer Susan Boyle who was ugly on Britain's Got Talent so much as our reaction to her

Susan Boyle, the ugly, chubby housewife. She came on ‘Britain’s Got Talent’, not wearing flattering clothes, told she was single, living with a cat and had never been kissed. Then she starts singing and the world is shocked. Why are we shocked when “ugly” women can do things, instead of sitting at home in self-pity. Simon Cowell was irritated when he first saw this sloppy ‘old’ lady, ready to send her away and so was the entire audience. And then she sang and it was wonderful. The judges and audiences were astonished and amazed but they were also ashamed. How could they have misjudged her like that? When she was finished Amanda Holden said: “I am so thrilled because I know that everybody was against you.”. What if Susan Boyle had answered: “Why? Can’t ugly people be talented”. This is what we see everyday in our popular culture, our lust for beauty. Susan will probably win Britain’s Got Talent. She will be served up for the British public: Look! It’s ugly! It sings! We think this will make us better people. By raising this Susan up, we will forgive ourselves for every other Susan we grind into the dust. Sing, Susan, sing to an ugly crowd, that does not deserve you.

I fully agree with this article. Nowadays we pay too much attention to the outside rather than the inside. We are confronted with it all the time for example advertisments about how to become more beautiful are all around us. I also agree that we should be ashamed. To be honest I watch the show too and as Susan Boyle came on stage I also thought that this was some joke. As I read the article I felt ashamed too. Now I know that Susan Boyle has not won Britain’s Got Talent and she has even been taken to a mental clinic. The pressure, the media and the show, it is too much for someone who was a regular single woman up to six weeks ago. I wonder if Susan Boyle has thought about the faces when she came on stage. Did she know people were laughing at her, staring at her? Was she aware of this and did she realize why they did this? I truly hope she did not, although she probably did. She is, hopefully, in a mental clinic because of the chaos. And I hope she is proud of getting to the finals, she should be.

YouTube's new bid to boost revenues: Sponsored videos and a live performance

Analysts and investors have been thinking of a way to make more money with YouTube. They have thought of a self-serve video platform and a live web cast. They want YouTube to be more 'all-round' to compete with other video-websites. The selve-serve platform is meant for advertisers, they can now upload their adverts. They pay per word that 'hits' their advertisement. This means it is easy for both small and large advertiser to get this going. There will also be a live event including music artists, internet sensations and TV-personalities.
These ideas are great, but will never make as much money as Google does, YouTube was about making potential, not making money, right?

The thing that makes YouTube this popular is that it is free and accessible for everyone. The only thing you need to get access to YouTube is internet. I do agree that live events for a fair price is a great deal. This will probably be very popular among fans. Lots of people check their idols in concert or video clips on YouTube. However I do not think adverts on YouTube are going to 'work'. Most people visit YouTube.com because they are looking for a specific trailer or video. I doubt if they will watch advertisements. Clearly YouTube is trying to make money, just like Google does. I do agree with the reporter that YouTube will not be able to make as much money as Google in the next couple of years and that it is meant to making potential, not money.

To err is human - but not if you're a doctor

We’ve all made mistakes in our work. But if you’re a doctor, the consequences can be deadly. Dr George Fernie is now asking some sympathy for doctors that made mistakes. Often a medical mistake is not only a doctors fault, but it is in the lack of communication in a hospital. In the end the doctor is the only one blamed for the damage! About 850.000 people are victims of missed diagnoses and medical mistakes, says NHS (medical advisor). This is not only causing lots of suffering and grief but also a lot of money. Most people want an apology and money. And this is not the only thing the consequences for doctors are huge. They might be suspended, dismissed, taken to court, pressed for criminal charges and their license can be taken away. This is not the right way to encourage doctors to go back to work and make up what they did wrong, isn’t it?

I think it is horrible that doctors are treated this way. Making mistakes is human, and doctors are too. Of course it is awful when a patient dies of a medical mistake, but this is not a crime! Taking a doctor to court and ask for assurance is not the way to make the mistake disappear. The doctor is probably already shocked and feeling sorry, and because of that not sure of themselves. I think they are having enough trouble forgiving themselves. Of course their should be an investigation so that families and other will know what went wrong be let’s just leave it with that. I am sure there are cases in which doctors need some kind of ‘punishment’, but I think we should not take out so hard on them.

Woman turned away with lingerie

A Brazilian woman was turned away at Newcastle Airport because she carried luggage which only contained t-shirts, a dressing gown and lingerie. They were suspicious because the woman could not explain why she was visiting England. When they checked her passport, they found out she was turned away at Belfast City Airport three months earlier. They had checked her luggage there too and found several sexual paraphernalia and information about escort agencies and sex websites. They now suspect this woman of being involved in the sex industry.

I do not really know what to think of this. It is kind of strange to refuse someone because they think the person has something to do with the sex industrie. Other people (famous people) in that bussiness are allowed to fly to other countries right? So the woman should have thought of a good reason to come visit England, and then everything would have been all right. If the only reason for refusing her is, that she did not have a proper reason to come to England, than why is it all over the paper.
